Shoonya — The Primordial State
In the foundational philosophical proposition of Libre Essence, consciousness exists with Shoonya. Shoonya is not being used here merely as the numerical zero; it names a primordial, undifferentiated state from which distinctions and forms may be contemplated as emerging.
Consciousness is not created by the spiral in this model. It is treated as a fundamental presence coexisting with Shoonya. This is a philosophical starting point, not a claim established by experimental physics.
The spiral does not create consciousness. It offers a visual and conceptual language for contemplating the unfolding of its expression.
Section 02
The Spiral — The Principle of Expansion
The spiral is the central visual language of the Libre Essence inquiry. It represents movement from an imagined unmanifest centre toward an expanding field of expression. Its turns can be read as continuity, recurrence and change—not as proof that consciousness literally travels along a physical spiral.
The artist’s original spiral symbol should be placed here as the primary visual, without decorative geometry that alters its character. It functions as an artistic proposition and a starting point for the mathematical model below.
Shoonya + consciousness → spiral principle → trajectory → traces and forms
This is a conceptual sequence, not a standard scientific equation. The plus sign indicates coexistence in the philosophical premise, not numerical addition.
Section 03
Time and Becoming
A trajectory can be represented in the complex plane by a time-dependent position. The complex number records both a distance from the origin and a direction around it:
z(t) = r(t)eiθ(t)
r(t) = A(eλφt − 1), t ≥ 0
θ(t) = θ₀ + kφt
Here, z(t) is the position on the plane at time t; r(t) is its radius, or distance from the origin; and θ(t) is its angle. The exponential term models radial expansion, while the changing angle models rotation. Together they create an expanding spiral.
Parameters and units
- A > 0: radial scale, in the chosen length unit.
- λ > 0: radial growth rate, inverse-time units.
- k: angular rate coefficient, inverse-time units when radians are dimensionless.
- φ: dimensionless golden-ratio parameter, used here as a modelling choice.
- θ₀: initial angle, in radians.
- t ≥ 0: elapsed time from the model’s chosen origin.
Boundary conditions
At t = 0, the proposed radius is r(0) = 0, so the trajectory begins at the origin. For A > 0 and λ > 0, the radius grows as time increases. The angle begins at θ₀.
These equations are one candidate construction. They do not uniquely follow from the philosophical premise, and φ’s appearance in the rates is an assumption to examine.
Deriving the radial behaviour
Starting with r(t) = A(eλφt − 1), subtracting the constant scale term and dividing by A gives r/A + 1 = eλφt. Taking the natural logarithm gives the inverse relation:
t = ln(1 + r/A) / (λφ)
This lets us calculate the model time associated with any positive radius. It is a mathematical consequence of the chosen function, not evidence that actual consciousness follows this function.

Vary the spiral parameters
Change the parameters to see how the candidate trajectory responds. This is a visual exploration of the equations above—not a simulation or measurement of consciousness.

The plotted spiral is scaled to fit the canvas, so its visual size is normalised for display. Values shown are calculated from the selected model parameters; they are not physical measurements.
Section 04
The Golden Rhythm
The golden ratio is φ = (1 + √5)/2 ≈ 1.618. The Fibonacci sequence begins 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13…, with each term after the first two formed by adding the previous two. Ratios of successive non-zero Fibonacci terms approach φ as the sequence continues.
φ = (1 + √5) / 2 ≈ 1.6180339887
F₀ = 0, F₁ = 1
Fₙ₊₁ = Fₙ + Fₙ₋₁
limn→∞ Fₙ₊₁/Fₙ = φ
Hypothesis: a common proportional rhythm
Let sₙ denote the radial position chosen for the nth trace, and aₙ the characteristic linear size of the nth form. One hypothesis is that both advance by the same proportional factor:
sₙ₊₁ = φsₙ ⇒ sₙ = s₁φn−1
aₙ₊₁ = φaₙ ⇒ aₙ = a₁φn−1
Δsₙ = sₙ₊₁ − sₙ = (φ − 1)sₙ = sₙ/φ
If both sequences use the same factor, the ratio sₙ/aₙ remains constant, provided their initial values are fixed and non-zero. This is a consequence of the assumed rules. It does not prove that trace spacing and form size in the paintings—or in nature—actually follow those rules.
Deriving the trace-time relationship
To place consecutive traces on the chosen trajectory, impose r(tₙ₊₁) = φr(tₙ). Substituting the radial function and cancelling A yields:
A(eλφtₙ₊₁ − 1) = φA(eλφtₙ − 1)
eλφtₙ₊₁ = 1 + φ(eλφtₙ − 1)
tₙ₊₁ = ln[1 + φ(eλφtₙ − 1)] / (λφ)
This is the trace-time equation implied by the chosen radial function and the chosen radial progression. It does not mean time intervals themselves grow by φ. A trace at the origin cannot be used as a non-zero starting trace for this multiplicative rule, so a positive seed radius/time is needed for the sequence.
Section 05
From Consciousness to Manifestation
The philosophical sequence distinguishes the proposed invariant source from its changing expression:
C₀ → S(t) → C(t)
C₀ = foundational consciousness in the philosophical model
S(t) = spiral principle or time-dependent process of expansion
C(t) = evolving expression or manifestation
C₀ is treated as invariant by philosophical choice; S(t) represents the proposed process; and C(t) names expression as it unfolds. These symbols are conceptual labels, not measured physical quantities or a differential equation yet.
The number and variety of forms may increase in this interpretation, while the source is not considered depleted. That is a philosophical distinction between source and expression, not a demonstrated conservation law for consciousness.
Multiplicity of form need not imply the diminishing of the source—but the proposition must remain philosophical until its terms can be defined and tested.

Open Questions and Derivations
Defined in this model
The candidate complex trajectory, radial and angular functions, parameter meanings, initial condition, and proposed trace and form sequences.
Mathematical consequences
The inverse time-radius relation, geometric sequences under a common ratio, and trace-time equation follow algebraically from the selected assumptions.
Untested assumptions
That φ should govern radial and angular rates; that traces and form sizes share a ratio; and that these relationships correspond to a process of consciousness becoming manifest.
Evidence required
Clear operational definitions, measurements from specified works or systems, reproducible procedures, comparison against alternative models, uncertainty estimates, and independent scrutiny.
Research stages
- Stage 1 — Document the derivation: publish equations, definitions, assumptions, units, boundary conditions and revisions.
- Stage 2 — Explore the model: vary parameters in the interactive plot and distinguish equation-driven behaviour from added assumptions.
- Stage 3 — Test the hypotheses: examine whether one rule can generate both trace spacing and form size, and whether Fibonacci behaviour follows from that rule.
Do not assign a numerical value to consciousness unless the quantity and its method of measurement have first been defined. A physical-law claim would require evidence beyond mathematical consistency or visual resemblance.
Status: provisional artistic-philosophical and mathematical investigation. Equations here are proposed models; no universal physical law is claimed.
